FTV 165 Independence Day

This week on From the Vault we first explore the ritual of Independence Day by presenting a Pacifica National program produced by Adi Gevins and Ginna Allison that was originally broadcast in July 1995. Entitled “Star Spangled Independence,” this program takes an irreverent survey of the official symbols and personal rituals of American Patriotism. Then, we’ll listen to excerpts from the Civil Liberties Radio Education Project. This special mini-series from the late 1970’s examines the outer boundaries of protections provided by the Bill of Rights and how our civil liberties are affected by these limitations.
From the Vault is proudly presented as part of the Pacifica Radio Archives Preservation and Access Project.
