FTV 013 Racial History in Los Angeles

“People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along?”
~Rodney King, pleading for peace in midst of the 1992 Los Angeles riots.
In 2002, Los Angeles radio station KPFK broadcast special programming that documented the history of race relations in the City of Angels. For perspective, they worked their microphones through many different racial persuasions, and recorded humanity spanning from the first settlers of Los Angeles, the Tongva Indian Tribe,
to Latinos, Asians, and African- Americans, among others. The finished documentary artfully explores the passion, diversity, and humanity of Los Angeles, culminating with Los Angeles Uprising of 1992. This week on From the Vault, we’ll hear excerpts from this riveting body of work.
